Once The IRS Has Filed A Substitute Return, Can I Still Lower my Tax Liability?

Important Notes;

  1. Substitute For Returns (SFR) are not filed to the same service center as other return.  If misfiled, they often end up in a black hole.
  2. It is preferable to prepare all returns and if there are outstanding liabilities, formulate a plan of action before filing.  Once filed, the IRS will access that tax and begin collection actions.  Potential resolutions options are Partial or full pay Installment Agreement, Offer In Compromise or Innocent Spouse.
